Working Towards Digital Inclusion of the Urban Poor in India, Indonesia & Kenya
This workshop explored digital inclusion among marginalised urban communities in India, Indonesia, and Kenya, focusing on the right to the city. It examined how access to information impacts resettled women in Chennai, at-risk youth in Yogyakarta, and slum households in Nairobi. Held in March 2023, the five-day event brought together 22 researchers, officials, and community leaders from the Netherlands, Kenya, Indonesia, and India to share insights and co-create strategies.
During the workshop, participants collaborated to identify community needs and develop digital information hubs. This collaborative exercise combined design thinking with action planning, using methods like empathy interviews, empathy maps, and personas to capture local perspectives. By the end of the week, the three groups presented their action research plans for establishing community-driven information hubs.
